We are very happy to announce that the Band Have now returned to rehearsals, though only Sectional rehearsals at the present time.

We stared two weeks ago and are presently based at the Goodshaw Baptist Church, a venue which was very kindly offered by the Rev Stephen Crook. Stephen is actually a former Principal Cornet with the BMP Europe Goodshaw Band.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be meeting as a 'full band' and rehearsing in the Car Park of the Andrew Industries Head Office in Altham, nr Padiham, with kind permission of Mr Ted Andrew the Company Chairman and band sponsor.

We are happy to announce that the Band will be returning to rehearsals at the earliest possible time.

We are very happy to be performing in the National Finals at Cheltenham and will be rehearsing intensely, in an very serious effort to become 4th Section National Brass Band Champions.

We will be making plans to travel to the Finals and if any of our supporters wish to come down with us, there will be a few seats available. The price will be sorted out as soon as we finalize the plans.

Kapitol Promotions, the owners of the National Brass Band Championships have announced that the Lower Section Finals,

will be held on the weekend of 18th / 19th September 2021 at the Centaur Centre, Cheltenham Racecourse, CHELTENHAM.

The BMP EUROPE GOODSHAW BAND, are very happy to be performing in the Championships and will be rehearsing intensely, in an serious attempt to become 4th Section National Champions.

As stated in the previous post, the Band are actively searching for rehearsal facilities so that we can commence rehearsals as soon as COVID restrictions are lifter.

As we still continue to suffer the restrictions of the Covid 19 virus we are actively searching for a temporary venue, where we can get together to rehearse.

However, the problem is that it must be large and well ventilated. If anyone can make any suggestions or offer us premises, we would be very grateful.

If anyone does have such a venue, please contact our Musical Director, David W Ashworth on 07785 257129.

As a band we where extremely happy to receive permission from Rossendale Council to play Christmas Carols in the Market at Rawtenstall on the weekend before Christmas.

We also received a request for members to play Carols at the Sainsbury Supermarket in Burnley.

At both venues the band played outside under strict COVID regulations, our players pbserved strict social distance, in a secure area behind barriers, where shoppers where not permitted to enter.

We thank everyone who donated money towards the band in these very difficult times but it was lovely to hear comments of how it lifted peoples spirits in these difficult times.

On 1st October 2020, Kapitol Promotions, the owners of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, announced that the Area Qualifying Championships for 2021 had been cancelled.

Following that announcement, they also announced that all of the bands which qualified for the 2020 National Finals, shall now compete for the 2021 National Finals.

This announcement means that the BMP Europe Goodshaw Band will compete in the 2021 National Finals at Cheltenham on a date yet to be announced.

Even though we still cannot get together to rehearse due to Covid 19, we are now itching to start again with the opportunity to look forward to our attendance at the Finals.

We are actively looking for a temporary venue, where we can get together to rehearse. However, the problem is that it must be large and well ventilated. If anyone can make any suggestions or offer us premises, we would be very grateful.

If anyone does have such a venue, please contact our Musical Director, David W Ashworth on 07785 257129.

Just to keep you, our supporters, aware that the band is still remaining strong, and even though we are not meeting together to rehearse, the band members are regularly in touch with each other and hold a weekly Quiz on Zoom.

As you may be aware, unfortunately, in July, Kapitol Promotions cancelled the 2020 National Finals, so all of our hard work in February, appears to be in vain.

However, we stand proud as the North West Area, 4th Section Champions. A honour that no one can take from us.

We are concerned that some of our supporters are not aware of what is going to happen in the future.

This is the reason for the post.

I ask that if there is anything that you wish to know, please ask the question and we will do our best to keep you informed.

It is with great saddness that I inform you of the Passing of Celia Wearing on Friday 22nd May 2020, following long term illness.

Joining the band in 2015, Celia settled in playing 3rd Cornet.
She always enjoyed the contesting side and entered her first contest with the BMP Europe Goodshaw Band in the North West Area 2016.
She also played in the Rochdale Contest 2016.
In 2017, she played at the Butlins National Championships, The Brass at the Guild Contest and the North West Area Contests.
In 2018, Celia played at the Brass at the Guild Contest and the North West Area Contest.

Unfortunately, Celia was taken ill in January 2020, and as a result, she was not well enough to play at the Blackpool Area Contest.
However, she was always there to support the band prior to the contest, and following our result, she was there to congratulate each and every one of the band at our first rehearsal after Blackpool.
That was, unfortunately, the last time that most of the band saw her, due to the Cor-vid 19 virus which caused our isolation.

It is the bands intention to hold a Memorial Concert at Kay Street Baptist Church, Rawtenstall, Celia's Church, as soon as the Isolation is lifted.

Our M.D. David W Ashworth, is to donate a Memorial Trophy to the Band, which will be awarded annually, to the Most Improved Player.

It is with great Saddness that I have to inform you that due to the current circumstances, the band has had to refrain from rehearsals.

As soon as the restrictions are lifted, we will be back in the Bandroom, refreshed and in good health ready to take on the National Finals.

Until then, we wish you all best wishes and keep safe.

BMP Goodshaw Band

Looking to Seymour Success

The band are delighted to announce the appointment of Alan Seymour as MD of BMP Goodshaw Brass Band. Alan was recently MD of Sale Brass where they had numerous podium finishes including being crowned Butlins 4th Section champions in 2016. Originally from the north east he is a very experienced conductor having conducted several north east bands as well as Wetherby Silver in the Yorkshire area.

Goodshaw Band Manager Mark Robinson stated; " We are looking forward to working with Alan, who has a wealth of experience both conducting and playing in brass bands. We are now looking forward to the 2018 North West Area Contest qualifier. Alan has already made a difference to the sound and style of the band and we are sure this will contribute to our future success"

Alan is thrilled to be appointed as MD of Goodshaw. He stated; " It is an honour to be appointed to this historic brass band, that just recently celebrated its 150th anniversary. The band are so hard working and are already making rapid progress. Although several players had left the band prior to my appointment, already several key signings have been made and the future looks bright. There is a quality player in every solo seat and with a further influx of players we will have an excellent chance of success on the contest stage. The bands results at the north west area qualifiers have been disappointing of late and I am hoping for a top 6 finish next year. Entertaining and fun concerts are also my priority and we hope to organise a Spring concert with a guest soloist as well as performing at Boarshurst Club in April."

The band would also like to thank previous conductor Josh Hughes for his efforts whilst with the band and wish him every success in the future.
